    This is incorrect !!! .. The idea of using Fibre Optics in instrumentation and telecoms (in addition to its increased Speed and throughput, as the signal transfers at the speed of light!), is that its immune to interference!, since the signal is formed of pulses of light, and not of electric current, and hence there is NO "magnetic fields"! that would cause interference, as in the traditional copper Low Voltage and High Voltage cables.

    A better reason for the loss of mobile service in this specific case, is that the microwave signals of a mobile transmission usually weakens and fades inside buildings .. specially buildings made of a earthed steel structures .. but there could be many other reasons .. That's my personal opinion though.
